Are you in the midst of planning your wedding or perhaps you know someone who is? Our Wedding and Events Manager, Sandra Flavin, knows just how much organisation goes into making a wedding day run smoothly, so she has compiled some of her top tips for taking the stress out of your big day.
1. Enjoy all wedding-related appointments.
Make each of your appointments fun. From visiting the venue, deciding on your dress and the bridesmaid dresses to tasting the cake. Get the diaries out and include your bridal party and family as much as possible.
2. Practice arranging your dress.
A long train is beautiful for walking down the aisle but not on the dancefloor. Ask your dressmaker to show your maid of honour how to bustle your dress and most importantly decide in advance when this will be done. I would recommend after speeches while the band are finalising their set-up.
3. Table plans are a must!
This is not as scary as it sounds and your guests will appreciate the organisation. Otherwise they will be unsure where to sit and may try to move place settings, resulting in additional people trying to fit around a table.
4. Delegate on the day.
Although you may have put months of careful planning into your wedding day there are several tasks that will need to be done on the actual day. Delegate tasks to your bridal party or to a family member so that you won’t have to worry about them; nominate someone to ensure your luggage is brought from the car to your bridal suite, to pay suppliers that require payment on the day and to organise family for group photos.
5. Be present in each moment.
Your wedding day will go by so quickly. I have heard this from almost every couple the day after their wedding. Ensure you have everything finalised a week before your big day. This will allow you the time to enjoy the build-up and meet family and friends that have travelled long distances. On the day, take at least twenty minutes of alone time with your husband; the best time to do this is while the hotel staff are taking the meal order.
