Shaping the Road to Ryder Cup 2027

In October, members of the Adare Manor team travelled to New York to witness the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. It was a rare opportunity to experience one of golf’s most iconic sporting events firsthand and to observe the intricate details that define a tournament of this scale.

With the Ryder Cup set to arrive in Ireland in 2027, the experience marked an important step in shaping what lies ahead at Adare Manor.

Understanding the Scale of a World-Class Golf Event

From the moment they arrived, the magnitude of the Ryder Cup was unmistakable. Tens of thousands of spectators filled the course each day, while grandstands, hospitality pavilions, and global broadcast infrastructure created a dynamic and immersive environment.

Behind-the-Scenes Operations

A dedicated group from Adare Manor’s events and hospitality teams spent the week observing how such a large-scale event operates seamlessly. They looked at:

  • Crowd movement and flow across the course
  • Energy and build-up at key moments, such as the first tee
  • Coordination between hospitality, media, and event operations
  • The pacing and rhythm of a multi-day international tournament

These observations, combined with insights from previous Ryder Cup experiences, will help shape a 2027 event that blends global excellence with a distinctly Irish sense of welcome.

Course Preparation and Greenkeeping Insights

For Adare Manor’s greenkeeping team, Bethpage Black offered invaluable real-world perspective on championship course management under pressure.

Maintaining Championship Conditions

While preparation is already well underway at Adare Manor, experiencing the realities of tournament play revealed important subtleties. Our team observed:

  • Turf resilience under sustained foot traffic
  • Wear patterns in high-density spectator areas
  • Maintenance timing between matches
  • Techniques for preserving elite playing surfaces

These insights reinforce the importance of not only preparation, but adaptability, ensuring the course performs at the highest level throughout the tournament.

The Putter Pass: A Symbolic Moment

One of the most memorable moments of the week came on Sunday during the ceremonial Putter Pass Over—a tradition symbolising stewardship, sportsmanship, and the enduring legacy of the Ryder Cup.

As JP McManus and Sue Ann Foley accepted the silver putter, it marked a transition not just of responsibility, but of anticipation.

“I could not be more excited about the centenary of what I think is the best event in golf going to Ireland. And when the last putt drops today at Bethpage, all eyes turn to Ireland, and Ireland will be ready.”

– Guy Kinnings, CEO of the European Tour

This was more than a ceremony. It was a moment of reflection, highlighting that hosting the Ryder Cup is as much about heritage and care as it is about spectacle.

Looking Ahead to Ryder Cup 2027 at Adare Manor

When the Ryder Cup arrives at Adare Manor in 2027, it will reflect the knowledge, preparation, and inspiration gathered from experiences like Bethpage Black.

Every insight: operational, agronomic, and creative, will contribute to shaping an event that is both world-class and uniquely Irish.

More than a sporting event, Ryder Cup 2027 will be defined by atmosphere, hospitality, and the unforgettable experience of being at Adare Manor in this unforgettable moment.
