The Cliffs of Moher
Located on the County Clare coastline, the Cliffs rise 700 feet above the Atlantic and extend five miles. The Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland's top visitor attractions, are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometers over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare. O'Brien's Tower stands proudly on a headland of the majestic Cliffs. Depending on weather, from the Cliffs one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South. (2 hours drive each way).
Lisdoonvarna Spa
Famous for being the only spa in Ireland, the Lisdoonvarna Spa Wells Centre features sulphur baths, massage, saunas and other health facilities. Open June - October. (2 hours drive each way - near Cliffs of Moher).
Aillwee Cave
Located in Ballyvaughan (Co. Clare) this is one of Ireland's oldest caves with over 1000 feet of passages running straight into a mountain, and was only discovered forty years ago by a local farmer. (90 minute drive each way).
Galway City
A city known throughout the world for the sun setting on it's Bay. The Spanish Arch and Parade are named for the merchants who came here long ago; the Claddagh, said to be the oldest fishing village in Ireland and the spot where the Claddagh ring originated. As tradition has it, Christopher Columbus worshipped here at the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas before setting out on his voyage of discovery. (2 hours drive to the centre of Galway city).
The Burren
In the north west corner of Co. Clare is a rock garden of no ordinary proportions. The Burren extends over more than a hundred square miles. The limestone area has many unusual features that make it unique in Europe. Its geology, flora, caves, archaeology and history set it apart as a place of great mystery and beauty. On the pasture, and in the many crevices in the pavement of rocks, there are countless wild flowers so that the region is a mass of colour. It has mountainous characteristics with a wonderful seashore, and is liberally scattered with the monuments created by its human inhabitants in the course of 6,000 years. (2 hours and 15 minute drive each way).
The Burren Smokehouse is located in the Spa town of Lisdoonvarna, a 10 minutes drive from the Cliffs of Moher. In their visitor centre and delicatessen you will be able to watch a short video about the smoking process, browse the shop for presents and of course sample and buy their world-famous organic salmon, mackerel, trout but also locally produced cheeses. The Burren Smokehouse believe in sourcing all their products - be it salmon or non-edible gifts - as locally as possible: they take great pride in offering all things Irish.
